Course Content

The course covers the following units:

Theories of criminality

Changing awareness of crime

Crime scene to courtroom

Crime and punishment

Criminology is a Level 3 Diploma and students will take this course alongside other A-level subjects (e.g. criminology, sociology and history). It is assessed by both coursework (50%) and examinations (50%).

More than just a Course

Criminology is the focussed study of the phenomenon of crime. The discipline is rooted in the field of sociology but also incorporates relevant aspects of psychology and law. Learners will study all aspects of criminality from explanations and theories of offending through to the Criminal Justice System and the role of various agencies of social control. Criminology is a popular university course and the Level 3 Diploma will provide an excellent foundation for Higher Education. Additionally, as criminology covers several subject areas it is a fantastic course to complement other A-level subjects such as sociology, psychology and law.
