5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above (including English and Maths)

A previous art and design GCSE at grade 4 or above or similar and/or a passion and interest in the subject

Successful interview with an art tutor (bring a portfolio of your art and design work)

Good verbal and written communication

Good drawing skills are a bonus

Course Content

Delivery on this 2 year Advanced course includes mandatory units: Visual Recording in Art and Design, Materials, Techniques, and Processes in Art and Design, Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design, Communication Through Art and Design and Contextual Influences in Art and Design. These are delivered alongside optional units designed around developing a wide and thorough experience for students on an Art & Design course.

Your Unique Experience

Here at Clarendon we hope that this course allows you to be an individual, offering you the opportunity to express and explore your creative ideas. You will be introduced to a variety of media and techniques that will broaden and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of a subject that reaches far beyond the classroom walls. You will develop your own practice as an artist and be encouraged to investigate new ideas and processes, we value opportunities for our students in college but also through working to external briefs, visiting galleries and artists/designers and close contact with local employers. This is a course for a student with a flair, passion and enthusiasm for creativity.

More than just a Course

This course is designed for those students who have a flair for creativity and enjoy producing art and design work. The course explores a range of new and creative ways of using materials, techniques and processes, some of which you may have not experienced before. Over the course of two years you will work in painting, drawing, life drawing, print, design development, sculpture, digital processes as well as contextual studies. There is also the opportunity to explore design disciplines. This course is the equivalent to 3 A Levels.

You will have the opportunity to participate in numerous live briefs for ‘real clients’, use of our excellent new facilities and the chance to experience lfe drawing.

Course Format

A Level programme


After completing this course students go on to higher education within art and design or a wide range of other subjects. Following on from this students’ enter a range of employment opportunities such as multiple design fields, photography, artist, printmaker, set designer, to name just a few. Progression is delivered through a unit of assessed work on the course and as a result of this trips, visits and external lectures form a valuable tool for learners to inform their future decisions
