Students looking to triumph again in GMCG competitions

Students from Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College are preparing to compete in the Greater Manchester Colleges Group competitions later this month.

Students in ten subjects from across the college will be taking part over the coming weeks.

The GMCG competitions take place annually and see students from the ten further education colleges in Greater Manchester, competing against one another in a series of heats.

Hospitality, travel and tourism, media and construction students claimed the top prize for their categories in 2018 and are looking to retain their titles again in 2019.

Jonathan Putt, assistant principal at Tameside College, said: “I’d like to wish our students the best of luck in the GMCG competitions. We’re very proud of student success in previous years and hope that they do as well, if not better this year. The competitions are important because they showcase student work, give them pride in their achievements and develop key employability skills for the future.”

“I’m hoping that these competitions will inspire students to take part in the WorldSkills competitions, which would see them compete at a national, and possibly even international level.”

The hair and beauty competition will take place at Tameside College’s brand new Tameside One campus on Wednesday 27th March. The facility includes state-of-the-art classrooms, salons and a student training restaurant, open to the public.
